Former Self Reflection
I had this thought yesterday:
Sometimes my former self frightens me.
True story.

Feature Writers: Cheryl B & Melissa Hotchkiss
Cheryl B. writes about sex, friendships, dysfunctional families and New York in the 90’s through a queer, sober lens.
Melissa Hotchkiss’ poems have the powerful de-familiarizing quality of certain Eastern European films. One careful, oddly lighted take after another – focusing on very minute, ordinary things – suddenly releases an enormous spookiness, sadness, or longing.

The lovely Blaise K has a fabulous writeup about the June 24th How I Learned Reading, which was a truly incredible night. I probably should have blogged about it earlier, but Ms. K pretty much covered everything in her post. I was also quite flattered by her description of my reading: “She managed to write and tell a story about an exceptionally dark time–to a room filled with mostly drunk people–with style, humor and accessibility. That is what I love.”
What I’ve been doing:
- I recently joined Shewrites.com, a networking site for women writers. Lots of cool literary ladies are on there.
- Looking for work.
- Not sure if one can actually gorge oneself on blueberries, but I seem to be trying. They are quite delicious this time of year.
- Writing new poems in a series. Mainly using a composition book. My first intentional poetry series, actually. I typically write in a more haphazard way. I can’t tell yet if they suck.
- Putting myself on budget, non-diet food plan tied to budget and exercising regularly. Feels good.
- Trying to get up the will to iron two cool summer skirts I own. I would love to wear the skirts, but I really hate to iron. I’ve lost a lot of cute clothes to never ending wrinkles. What to do?
- As of yesterday, I officially have a girlfriend. High five.
